 ComputeR

QCC is in the business of helping our clients have computers that run efficiently.  We know that having to use a computer that runs slower than molasses, has windows pop up all the time with unwanted advertising, goes to web sites that are not where you expected to go and are a threat to your identity, bank and credit card accounts and piece of mind can just drive people crazy.  We have developed a service to remove these kinds of problems from your computer.

We call it "ComputeRx - Just what the doctor ordered!"

This is basically a tune-up for your computer.  Here is what our standard ComputeRx service covers:

  • To start with, QCC will pick up your computer at your home or business then when we are done we'll return it and reinstall it so it is ready for you to start using it.  We sit down with you at your computer before we unhook it and go over what you would like us to do.  We'll explain what we plan to do and what we would suggest in the way of adding any additional software or hardware if we see that it could significantly improve your computer's performance.  We'll tell you our professional opinion but won't push at all.  No hard sales.  Promise!

  • We open your computer up and thoroughly clean out all the dust, dog and cat hair, carpet fuzz, cobwebs and whatever else has managed to take up residence inside that shouldn't be there.

  • QCC will run not 1, not 2, not even 3 and not even 4 but 5 (count 'em, five) different programs (or even more if we see a need) that are designed to detect and remove traces of spyware, viruses and other malicious software.  This is the heart of our ComputeRx  service.  Most computer security experts agree that no single program is enough to get rid of the infestation of these types of programs found on most computers.  They suggest at least 2 if not 3 programs to do the job.  That is why we run a minimum of five of the best, top rated available detection programs to show this junk the door!

  • Install any antivirus or antispyware detection and removal programs that you want to have permanently on your computer.  QCC will configure these valuable programs with the optimal settings to make sure they are kept up to date and run regularly so you don't need to remember to run them yourself.

  • Remove unneeded programs that start up every time you start your computer.  Unfortunately, lots of spyware is installed so it starts up every time you re-start your computer.  QCC knows where these evil little autostart devils are hidden and will remove them from the places that do these automatic startups.

  • Defragment your hard drive.  OK, that's using some of that computer geek terminology isn't it!  Here's what it means.  When a computer is used a lot, the information that is stored on the hard drive gets what might be called disorganized.  It is a little like taking all the pages out of some book and putting each page in a different drawer or closet shelf around your house.  You know all the pages are there somewhere but it takes a lot longer to gather them all together each time you want to look at the book than if they were all together like when the book was new.  Defragmenting is like gathering all those pages of information together and putting them all in one place again; like in a hard cover bound book!

  • Remove any unneeded icons and other stuff from the desktop [that's computer geek speak for the main screen where all those pretty little pictures are shown!)  Most computers come with lots of icons and program menu entries for programs and services.  This is because the computer manufacture hopes you will use them because they get paid for putting all those little pictures there by the people who make those programs!  Lots of these things are for programs that most people don't want or won't have any use for.  We talk with our customers to find out what sort of things they DO use their computer for and then we get rid of the distracting icons, folders, files, menu entries and anything else that just plain gets in your way.

  • Check any antivirus, antispyware and firewall programs on your computer to make sure their configuration options are set the best way to give you the maximum protection possible.  QCC will also set up these programs to automatically run at regularly scheduled times so your computer continues to be protected in the future.

  • QCC gives you a full, multipage report showing what and how much spyware, virus and other malicious software we found on your computer.  It can be a little scary to see what was on your computer but at least you're better educated to the dangers you faced!  We hope it will help you feel comfortable seeing that your money was well spent to remove these malicious little beasts!

  • Apply all the latest, appropriate security and bug fixes available for Windows so your computer is as protected as possible from known problems and the bad guys!  QCC also will set up your computer to automatically install future security patches to keep your computer up to date.

  • A comprehensive booklet is provided that gives you detailed instructions and direction about how to use any spyware detection software we installed for you (at your direction) on your computer.  These types of detection programs have lots of settings that can be changed and when they find something they think might be something you might NOT want running on your computer, they ask you what you want to do about it.  Our instructions help you to understand these settings and how to respond to what the programs find.

  • When QCC delivers your cleaned up computer back to you and installs it ready for you to use, we will go through any old manuals, CDs, floppy disks and other computer type items you might have had sitting around for years and recommend which of these items you can safely toss out.  People often go through several computers over a period of years and are often afraid to throw out these types of things because they aren't sure what is needed and what is not.  With our years of experience we can easily go through these items and tell you what to toss and what to keep.  That way your computer AND the drawer or closet full of computer papers and disks are both cleaned up!

  • QCC will recommend any programs or hardware we think would help you have a more useful, productive and powerful computer.  This might include more memory, a bigger hard disk, a newer version of Windows or even a new computer.  We will tell you in simple, layman's terms why we would recommend what we do so you can feel comfortable that you are not buying something that you don't know whether you need or not.

  • A FREE mouse pad!  OK, so we are going to shamelessly advertise our name on it so you will remember to call us if you need us again and so you will hopefully recommend our services to your friends and neighbors.  Hey, at least the mouse pad is tastefully designed and pleasant to look at while still discerningly containing Quality Computer Care's name and contact information!

  • And about a dozen or so other little things we'll do to the way your computer and programs are set up to make your life just  a little bit easier.  We'll show you what we did when we reinstall your computer so you can take advantage of everything!

Now would you like to do all those things yourself?

We hope we have convinced you our ComputeRx really is:

  "Just what the doctor ordered!"

We also hope you feel it is also well worth the price and covers much more than most people would ever try to or want to do themselves even if they had the 10 to 20+ hours it would probably take them!

 ComputeRx GOLD

ComputeRx GOLD - This is our premium service.  If you want the ultimate, you'll want ComputeRx GOLD!  This service includes all of the items described above that are in our standard ComputeRx service PLUS the following extra items:

  • Backup copies (to CD disks) of the data files in the My Documents folder and any other data we find on your computer that could be valuable and very hard to replace or duplicate if it were lost due to equipment malfunction or deletion by mistake.

  • Verification that System Restore settings are correct to help recover in cases of Windows settings corruptions.  This does happen and having the ability to restore the appropriate settings can save the day sometimes.

  • Install and set up an antispam program or email program "rules" to help eliminate unwanted Spam emails.  If you want us to add this type of software to help cut down on the junk emails you receive, we'll be happy to do just that!  We'll recommend what would be best for your situation.

  • Run a Registry cleaner program.  There we go again with the geek speak!  Let us explain.  The Windows Operation System (or OS as us QCC geeks call it) is made up of literally thousands of rather detailed programs parts and settings.  Virtually everything that happens while you are running programs on your computer revolves around this stored information.  These are things like what colors and pictures to show on your screen's desktop, what printer is connected to your computer, where your emails and address book is stored, what program should be started when you want to look at a digital picture or listen to a song or see a written document, etc., etc., etc.  Well, all these little details need to be kept in order and when programs are run or installed or removed or crash in various fun ways, the Registry is affected.  Sometimes it is affected in rather negative ways like it gets junk left around that shouldn't be left around.  QCC runs Registry cleaner programs to help remove this stuff which in turn helps your computer to run better.

  • Set the computer's BIOS to NOT to try boot from the floppy drive first.  Wow, you thought the last item about the Registry was geek speak!  You can skip the rest of this paragraph if you really don't care to know what the heck all this means.  OK, for those of you who do want to understand what this means, here is the boring explanation.  When you start up your computer (that is called Booting) it has to know where to find the basic program (usually Windows) to make it run all the other programs you might want to run.  Most computers are set up to look for this basic program by looking at the floppy disk drive first.  The floppy disk drive is that thing that you can shove a little, flat 3" x 3" piece of plastic into which contains a round piece of ferrous covered material where you can magnetically store things like pictures, documents, programs or whatever else you might want to keep.  Well, long ago, in a time far, far away, when a computer crashed so badly that it couldn't be started up from the hard disk, people used to keep floppy disks that could be used to start their computers up and try to recover what they could from the hard disk.  While there are still a few rare occasions where this might actually need to be done, the problem is that every time you start your computer it still takes a little time to go check to see if you have that little 3" x 3" piece of plastic stuck in the floppy disk drive and then it tries to see if there is a useful program on it that it might use to start the computer!  The problem with this is that if you just happen to have used a floppy disk to store some data on and forgot to remove it before you started your computer up again, you will probably end up staring at one of the most famous, confusing and anxiety producing message known to mankind which is: "Non-System disk or disk error" then the computer will just stop and sit there leaving you to try to figure out what the heck is going on!  So, QCC will make the appropriate changes so this fun little situation should never happen to you.  And that is what is meant by setting the BIOS to NOT to try boot from the floppy drive first.  Whew!

  • QCC will uninstall any programs you don't want or need on your computer.  Many people find that over the years they accumulate programs on their computers that they no longer use.  We'll help you identify these types of programs then safely remove them for you.

  • Removal of software that was used for printers or other types of devices that are no longer being used.  Often times newer printers, modems or other hardware devices are replaced with newer models but the supporting software for the old things is never removed.  QCC will take care of cleaning up that kind of old stuff.
